After reviewing reports provided by the Department of Commerce, President Trump declined to impose Section 232 duties on imports of uranium (uranium ore, uranium concentrate, uranium hexafluoride, enriched uranium, and enriched uranium in fuel assemblies).
The U.S. currently imports approximately 93% of its commercial uranium, as compared to 85.8% in 2009.
A working group was established to make recommendations for reviving and expanding domestic nuclear fuel production.
Section 232 is used on goods imported in such quantities and under such circumstances as to threaten to impair the national security of the United States. It may result in the imposition of import quotas and additional duties.
