Malaysia becomes the 9th country to ratify and joins the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The CPTPP agreement is between Canada and 10 other countries in the Asia-Pacific: Australia, Brunei, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam. Tariff elimination information for the remaining CPTPP countries to join are Brunei and Chile and will be made available once those countries ratify the Agreement.
As of November 29th, 2022, eligible goods from Malaysia benefit duty reductions under CPTPP preferential treatment. Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has published Customs Notice CN22-22 to inform industry of the changes.
The list of countries in the Customs Tariff T2022-5 has been updated to include the CPTPP tariff treatment for Malaysia. This tariff treatment is the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Tariff (CPTPT) – Code 33.
