Increased tariffs on textile imports into Mexico now in effect

MEXICO CITY: Importers and/or exporters of textile products should be aware that effective December 19, 2024, the government of Mexico increased tariffs on a variety of apparel and textile products. A complete list of the affected goods along with the official declaration is available here (in Spanish only).

In addition to these tariffs, the temporary import of certain clothing, apparel, and textiles, such as bed linens and coverings that fall under HTS Chapters 61, 62, and 63, will now be excluded from the IMMEX program, which previously allowed for these goods to be imported duty-free provided they are later re-exported within a set timeframe.

Exceptions to tariffs may be granted for qualifying businesses that meet the conditions listed by the Sub-Secretariat of Industry and Commerce. A complete list of the exceptions is available here (in Spanish only).

It is therefore extremely important that businesses evaluate alternative solutions by contacting their respective trade representatives as soon as possible.
