Feeds regulations proposed amendments consultations report

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) proposed amendments to the Feeds Regulations, 1983 were pre-published in the Canada Gazette, Part I (CG I) for a 125-day public consultation from June 12 to October 15, 2021. The aim of the consultation was to gather feedback from stakeholders with an interest in livestock feeds in Canada on the proposed changes to the regulations on imports, exports, and manufacture.

The proposed requirements for feed imports highlights:
-All imported single ingredient feeds and mixed feeds must be registered or imported by a licence holder.
-All imported feeds must meet Canadian standards and labelling requirements.
-Imported feeds must indicate on the label where they were manufactured or who they are imported by or for.
-The importer of the feed must be able to demonstrate that the feed was manufactured under conditions that provide at least the same level of protection as if it was made in Canada

Here is a summary report that outlines what was heard from the public, academia, organizations or individuals, and other government departments.

Amendments to the Feeds Regulations, 1983 are scheduled to be published in the Canada Gazette, Part II (CG II) in 2023.
