The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT), on March 26, 2021, gave notice that the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods (Surtax Order) was scheduled to expire on October 24, 2021.
At that time the CITT advised that domestic producers of goods that are like or directly competitive with the heavy plate and stainless steel wire subject to the safeguard surtax measures that they may file an extension request with the CITT no later than April 12, 2021 if they feel that it is necessary to continue the order to prevent or remedy serious injury to domestic producers.
Subsequently, on April 15, 2021 the CITT has given notice that no extension requests were received by the deadline. As such they will not be commencing an extension inquiry.
The order is therefore set to expire October 24, 2021.
The CITT’s Notice of Expiry of Order is available on CITT’s website.
