CFIA requirement changes for the organic certificate for dairy products

The Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), on August 11, 2022, gave notice to the importing industry that the organic import and admissibility requirements for Dairy products of chapters 04, 09, 18, 19, 21, 22 and 35, were incorporated in the CFIA AIRS tool.

At this time, Importers of organic products will be required to submit copy of organic certificate (electronic copy) when declaring import of organic products using the CBSA SWI Integrated Import Declaration (IID) database.

Under Part 13 of the SFCR, products must be certified as organic according to the Canadian Organic Standards. The SFCR also outlines the organic certification system known as the Canada Organic Regime. The purpose of the Canada Organic Regime is to regulate all parties involved in the certification of organic products (including operators, Certification Bodies and Conformity Verification Bodies) and to verify all applicable regulatory requirements, standards and guidance documents are being met.
