The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) recently launched a 90-day public consultation on the proposed Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (DFCR). If your business imports food into Canada, exports food to another country, or sells food across provinces, you may be subject to the proposed requirements outlined in this video.
Use the CFIA’s interactive tools to find out if you would need a license, a written Preventive Control Plan or what your traceability requirements would be. Learn more by viewing information and draft guidance documents on licensing, preventative food safety controls, traceability, importing and exporting food and food products available on CFIA’s website.
Have Your Say and provide feedback or comments
Here is your opportunity to give your input, comments and feedback on the proposed Safe Food for Canadian Regulations (SFCR) deadline April 21, 2017. The overall goal of the new regulations is to build prevention into every step of the food supply chain. The rules will be generally the same whether you import, export or manufacture food products in Canada for sale across provincial borders.
Focused on three key elements-preventive controls, traceability and licensing-the SFCR would require that food businesses put strong controls in place to manage risks before food is sold to consumers and to quickly remove unsafe foods from the marketplace when required.
Resources to help businesses and consumers understand the proposed regulation is available here. You can also provide your input on the same site.
Here are a few other ways you can better understand the proposed Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) and documents incorporated by reference, and how they would impact you.
