The CBSA recently announced two enhancements to its Free and Secure Trade (FAST) benefit for members of the Agency’s Trusted Trader programs: Customs Self Assessment (CSA) and Partners in Protection (PIP).
As of February 28, 2017 a new FAST lane and inspection booth has opened at the Fort Erie port of entry to offer priority clearance for eligible commercial vehicles. During the hours of operation, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday, the FAST lane can be used if:
- The driver is FAST or Commercial Driver Registration Program approved;
- The carrier is CSA and PIP approved;
- The importer is CSA and PIP approved; and
- All goods are CSA-eligible from the U.S. or Mexico.
With the launch at Fort Erie, FAST is now offered at Canada’s four busiest commercial highway border crossings; an additional lane is forthcoming for Emerson, Man., as well.
Also starting on February 28, the Pacific Highway port of entry will convert to the FAST-1st model, which continues to offer priority access to FAST eligible vehicles, while also reducing overall congestion at the border.
These enhancements are part of the CBSA’s ongoing efforts to simplify the border-crossing experience and offer further benefits to companies enrolled in its Trusted Trader Programs.
