Canadian Food Inspection Agency extends compliance timeline for labeling food additives in ready-to-eat meat products

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has extended the compliance timelines for updating labels and advertising in certain ready-to-eat (RTE) meat products which use food additives. This is good news for RTE meat producers, as it gives them more time to comply with the new regulations.

On November 9th, 2021, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) published a Notice to industry on compliance timelines for the use of food additives in certain ready-to-eat meat products.

Previously, regulated parties had until November 8th, 2022 to bring labels and advertising into compliance.

The CFIA has now extended the transition period to November 8th, 2023.

The CFIA will monitor compliance with all federal regulatory requirements for labelling and advertising and will conduct follow-up inspections to ensure the necessary changes have been made.
