The Minister of Natural Resources recently announced that Canada will ban certain petroleum oil imports from Russia.
Under the amendment to the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations, petroleum is prohibited for any person in Canada and any Canadian outside Canada to import, purchase or acquire any good referred to in column 1 of Schedule 5, from Russia or from any person in Russia. The petroleum products are listed in Schedule 5 of the Regulations Amending the Special Economic Measures (Russia) Regulations. Generally, petroleum goods of Canadian customs tariff chapter 27 is impacted.

a) Petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, crude of tariff heading 2709
b) Petroleum oils and oils obtained from bituminous minerals, other than crude; preparations not elsewhere specified or included, containing by weight 70% or more of petroleum oils or of oils obtained from bituminous minerals, these oils being the basic constituents of the preparations; waste oils of tariff heading 2710
c) Petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons of tariff heading 2711
