APHIS Updates Import Requirements for Certain Food Products Containing Egg from Canada

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) recently updated their import requirements for commercial shipments of non-shelf stable food products for human consumption imported from Canada which contain egg or egg products as ingredients. Products which meet these conditions will require a veterinary permit or a government issued health certificates issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

This import permit requirement does not apply to food products for human consumption imported from Canada, which contain egg or egg products as ingredients, which are commercially labeled and packaged and shelf stable (not requiring refrigeration or freezing).

APHIS import requirements for foods containing animal by-products may be found using APHIS’ Veterinary Services Permitting Assistant (VSPA).
