Simplified import documentation for pet food products from the United States

The Canada Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has notified industry that as of January 21, 2025, the Importer’s Statement of Compliance will no longer be required for imports of pet food products (pet food, treats, and supplements) imported from the United States.

Instead, along with the already required zoosanitary export certificate issued by the United States Department of Agriculture, a commercial invoice which indicates the zoosanitary export certificate number and a listing the products imported with their amounts will be required.

There will be a 3-month transition period until April 21, 2025, where shipments will still be accepted with the Importer’s Statement of Compliance. By the end of the transition period all commercial invoices must include the certificate number.
