Canada updates developing countries unilateral tariff preference programs

On January 1, 2025, Canada will introduce updates to its unilateral preferential tariff programs, affecting the General Preferential Tariff (GPT), the Least Developed Country Tariff (LDCT), the Commonwealth Caribbean Countries Tariff (CCCT) and introduce the new General Preferential Tariff Plus (GPTP).

The updates include the addition of new countries becoming eligible for the GPT, the removal of current countries from the LDCT program and expanding the duty-free treatment under CCCT to include all textiles, apparel and made-up textile articles in Chapters 50 – 63 of the Customs Tariff.

It will also introduce the new GPTP program.
