SIMA – Provisional duties now payable on certain wire rod

Provisional duties are now payable on certain goods subject to the Wire Rod SIMA case, originating in or exported from China, Egypt and Vietnam. This, after the Canada Border Services Agencies (CBSA) preliminary determination of dumping made on June 6, 2024.

Full details regarding the CBSA’s preliminary determination are available here.

The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) will now perform an inquiry to determine whether the dumping and subsidizing of the above-mentioned goods has caused injury or retardation or is threatening to cause injury to domestic producers.

Details of the CITT injury inquiry will be available on the CITT website.

Importers are reminded that, if using the services of a customs broker to clear their importations, the brokerage firm should be advised whether or not the goods are subject to anti-dumping and countervailing duties, and be provided with sufficient information necessary to accurately assess SIMA if applicable.
