The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT), on March 26, 2021, gave notice that the Order Imposing Surtax on the Importation of certain heavy plate and stainless-steel wire is scheduled to expire on October 24, 2021.
For the full authoritative description of the subject goods, including the applicable HS codes, please refer to Appendix A of the CITT’s notice.
Domestic producers of goods that are like or directly competitive with the goods subject to the safeguard surtax measures may file an extension request with the CITT if they feel that it is necessary to continue the order to prevent or remedy serious injury to domestic producers of like or directly competitive goods.
The deadline for filing an extension request is April 12, 2021, by noon, ET.
Documents should be filed electronically through the CITT Secure E-filing Service. Only one electronic copy is required.
The CITT will commence an inquiry into the extension request if it is satisfied that the information submitted by the requester and any other information examined by the CITT discloses a reasonable indication that the Surtax Order continues to be necessary to prevent or remedy serious injury to domestic producers of like or directly competitive goods and that the request is made by or on behalf of domestic producers accounting for a major proportion of domestic production.
Further detail regarding the extension request procedures are contained in the Notice of Expiry of Order.
