Annual Import Permits for Veterinary Biologics and Fee Increase

Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Canadian Centre for Veterinary Biologics issued a notice to foreign manufacturers and Canadian importers of veterinary biologics on the annual import permits required and the revised renewal date changing to April 15 – Jun 15, 2021 and the 2% fee increase.

All annual import permits for veterinary biologics licensed in Canada expire on April 30 of each year. The renewal window for these annual permits has been February to April preceding the expiry date. For the upcoming annual renewal, the Canadian Centre for Veterinary Biologics (CCVB) is delaying the renewal window to April 15 – June 15, 2021. To accommodate this change, the CCVB will re-issue all currently valid, annual Import Permits in February 2021, extending their validity to expire on June 30, 2021. No action is required on the part of permit holders to initiate this process.

This change to the renewal process accommodates the timing of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s annual service fee adjustment occurring every March 31. A fee increase of 2% based on the Consumer Price Index will be implemented on March 31, 2021. To ensure that the correct service fees are applied, please wait until April 2021 to access the updated Form CFIA/ACIA 4720 Application for Services.

The Veterinary Biologics Memorandum, reminding licence and permit holders to submit their renewal applications and outlining the renewal process, will be posted in April 2021. Renewal applications will not be accepted earlier. A reminder will also be sent by email, to those individuals who have signed up with CFIA’s Notification Services to receive updates regarding renewals of veterinary biologics licences and permits.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact CCVB, c/o the Pre-market Application Submissions Office at 613-773-7408 or by e-mail at [email protected].
