The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a notice to producers and importers of breaded food products as a reminder to ensure all ingredients are listed including absorption of oil used for frying or browning. The list of ingredients of some par-baked or browned, breaded food products may be improperly declared.
The CFIA would like to remind producers and importers of proper declaration of the list of ingredients on food products. As stipulated in the Food and Drug Regulations, all ingredients used in the food product must be declared by their common name in the list of ingredients, in descending order of proportion by weight as determined before they are combined to make the food. This includes oil used in frying or browning that remains part of the final product through absorption or other means.
The Ingredient Declaration on breaded food products provides further information.
